About Us

Design for Movement

The Balletbarre stands for professional ballet barres that bring function, stability and design together as one. Developed for studios, training institutions and demanding training environments, our goal is to create products that perform reliably in daily use and are built to last for many years.

Industrial Design Experience Since 1998

The industrial designer behind The Balletbarre is Christoph Ungureanu. After graduating from the University of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd, he founded the industrial design studio Formpark in Freiburg in 1998.

Since then, Formpark has developed products from the initial concept through design and engineering to preparation for production. This extensive experience forms the creative and technical foundation of The Balletbarre.

How The Balletbarre Began

The connection to dance developed through close ties with the DanceEmotion Studio and DanceEmotion Academy, which are run by Christoph Ungureanu’s wife. Over many years, this provided the opportunity to experience professional dance training first-hand and to observe the importance of the ballet barre in daily classes and professional dance education.

This revealed the essential requirements of a professional ballet barre: it must provide secure support, remain firmly in place, feel comfortable to the touch, offer flexible use and withstand the intensive demands of daily training over many years.

Many of the portable ballet barres available on the market did not meet these expectations in terms of stability, material quality, handling and design. This led to the ambition to rethink the ballet barre as a distinctive, high-quality product in its own right.

Intensive research was followed by a long development phase in which the construction, proportions, materials and handling were repeatedly tested and refined. By combining industrial design with practical experience in a professional dance environment, the PRO, PRO Light and HOME models were ultimately created—for different areas of use, but with the same fundamental standards of quality, function and design.

From the Initial Design to the Finished Product

Every ballet barre is developed as a complete, integrated product. Proportions, stability, materials, finishes and handling are carefully coordinated from the outset.

Steel and aluminium constructions provide stability, while carefully finished wooden barres offer a pleasant, natural feel. The clear design language does not follow short-lived trends. It is shaped by function and by the aim of creating products that are built to last.

Made in Germany

The Balletbarre is manufactured in Germany. We place great importance on high-quality materials, careful workmanship, short supply routes and a construction that allows individual components to be replaced when necessary.

The result is not short-lived training equipment, but durable ballet barres designed for regular and professional use.

Our Standard

A good ballet barre should not draw attention to itself during training. It should perform reliably, provide secure support and assist the natural flow of movement.

The Balletbarre is developed precisely for this purpose, drawing on extensive industrial design experience, a deep understanding of the requirements of dance and an uncompromising commitment to combining design and function.

The Balletbarre – engineered for movement. Designed to last.
